Fresh Start: Bringing the Blog Back!

AnnouncementsJenn JurfComment

“Look who's back back back, back again…”

So I’ve tried it before - the frequent updates and posts jam packed with useful information, but I truly believe that the timing has to be right in order for something to work well. Let me explain…

When I first launched my blog last year, I also released a new design every week, kept up with social media posts and made sure Pinterest knew who I was, all while maintaining the sudden growth of my business. Starting that many new projects all at once and trying to give 110% to each project, led me to burn out very very quickly. Throughout the past 6 months, I’ve been working to evaluate what’s important to you and what’s important to me.

At the end of the day, you want a beautiful wedding invitation from an industry professional, and you’d like to get things done in a timely manner.

So that brings me to today with the relaunch of my blog. “What happened to your old blog?” you may ask. Well, in January, my new website launched and the blog just didn’t make the cut. Yay for fresh starts!

Hi, I’m Jenn!

So let me start by telling you all about me (yay!!) Okay in reality, I’m not a fan of talking about myself but if you’re going to work with me and take my advice, it’s only fitting that I share the edited picture of myself and tell you why you should listen up!

Here I am in my cozy little studio. I work from home and it’s the best! My corgi pup, Pixel, will sometimes hang out in my studio, but usually she’s sleeping behind the couch or squeezing her toys in attempt to get my attention.

I quit my day job about 3 ½ years ago to take on Just Jurf full time. I feel awkward when sometimes people ask me how I got started because I literally say: “I quit my job and started.” It’s weird to say that but it’s true. I was miserable at my job and I was 23. If you’re that miserable in corporate life at age 23, well you have a very long road ahead of you and I just knew it wasn’t for me.

I had no graphic design experience however, I do have a degree in Hospitality & Event Management with a minor in Business and worked as an event coordinator before said awful corporate job. Everything you see here has come from over 3 years of dedicated trial and error but the desire to create a beautiful product and experience for my clients and the overwhelming support has made the process completely worth it.

When I’m not working, you can usually find me out on walks, planning my own wedding (!!!!) and spending time with my family.

So, what’s this all about?

So, let’s talk about what this blog is all about. I’m breaking the blog up into 4 sections: New Designs, Announcements, Tips and Tricks, and Inspiration.

New Designs

I release a new wedding invitation design every single Friday. This has been my way to continuously grow my design skills and look ahead on wedding trends so I can provide you with a design that is classic and romantic but still trendy. Plus this is also my way to incorporate client feedback into future designs so it’s a win win for everyone.

Starting this year, I’ll also have 4 specialty releases throughout the year - Bridal Shower and Rehearsal Dinner Invitations, Baby Shower Invitations, Photo Save the Dates and Holiday Cards. These will be small releases and be more themed around their respective categories but they’re designs that everyone can enjoy at any stage in their life.

The announcements section of my blog will include fun little posts like this, which will update you on what’s going on behind-the-scenes, any new products (did someone say custom stamps?) or new initiatives we’re adding (cough - tree planting program coming soon!).

Tips & Tricks

Because let’s be honest, wedding stationery etiquette can be a headache. This was one of those big lessons that I learned the hard way when I first started designing wedding invitations. What do you mean there’s etiquette?

So, I’ll break down big questions and give some advice on how to best word your invitations. You should also check out my etiquette guide as I try to keep that up to date and it’s a bit more organized than diving down the blog rabbit hole for an answer however, these answers may go into more detail.

This is where the fun happens! I often get asked to mix an invitation and envelope liner from different designs, add this fun embellishment or some other unique combination. This is the section where I’ll share fun and unique combinations of my designs to show that the possibilities are really endless.

Above all, this blog is for you. I’m here to answer your questions, share a laugh and make this process as smooth and exciting as possible!

As I’m going through the wedding planning process myself, I’m searching for vendors that know what they’re doing and I can have all my questions answered in one place rather than spending hours searching popular wedding blogs for stationery questions. Ummm if you have a stationery question, wouldn’t you want to ask the stationery experts? Just saying…

Unlike my old blog, I’m leaving comments on as I really want to hear from you! So let’s start with the small talk and tell me, what are you wedding colors? Isn’t it funny how after the wedding date, this is the next question people usually ask you about your wedding...
