Earth Day 2019

AnnouncementsJenn Jurf

Today is my first day back at work in 3 weeks after my wedding and honeymoon and I’m totally refreshed and ready to get back in the swing of things. I’m sure I’ll be sharing pictures from our Yosemite wedding and Switzerland honeymoon eventually but for now, it’s time to talk about Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day, which makes me extra happy to talk about this incredible planet we live on. Having our wedding in Yosemite and our honeymoon in Switzerland just made us abundantly grateful and continuously shocked by this planet, it’s insane landscape and it’s amazing people.

Ok, I’ll share one picture from our honeymoon because this view was just incredible! Taken at the top of the Swiss Alps at 10,000 feet and freezing our booties off but totally worth it.

Ok one picture from the wedding because this view was also epic. Completely unedited iPhone shot by our photographer, Kristen Curette.

Unfortunately the reality is, if we don’t change the way we live to help protect our planet, it may not always be this way. So today I’m sharing what I do here at Just Jurf to help give back to our planet.

One Tree Planted

Almost a year ago, I started a partnership with One Tree Planted, a non-profit that helps reforestation around the world by planting a tree for every dollar donated. My commitment has been one tree for every order placed and so far, I have planted 265 trees! Currently, my focus is on California, helping to rebuild the forests after the devastating forest fires that are so close to our home here in the Bay Area.

Every 20 seconds, an area the size of a football field is burning in California. A total of 2.4 million acres have burned since January 2017. That’s roughly the size of the entire Bay Area. In 18 months, wildfires have destroyed over 200 million trees throughout the state. The loss of so many trees can have a huge knock-off effects as they provide ecosystems for animals, they prevent mudslides and floods, they clean the air we breath and the water we drink and are our best bet in reversing the effects of climate change. Our Papers

Paper is a huge contribution to the decline in forests and in the US, we consume more than 30% of the world’s paper. (source) So, what are we doing about that?

Tree-free paper is our way to go! Not only is this cotton paper airy and fluffy, it’s luxuriously smooth and my absolutely favorite to use. Unfortunately, we can only use this paper on 100% letterpress orders but we use it every chance we get.

Our alternative paper that we use on the majority of our orders is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified. The purpose of FSC is to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests. It claims that forests managed to its standards offer benefits to both local and wider communities and these are said to include cleaner air and water, and a contribution to mitigating the effects of climate change. Important Dates for my 2019 Couples

AnnouncementsJenn Jurf

As my own wedding date quickly approaches, it’s time to finalize and announce some important dates for my 2019 couples.

The studio will be completely closed from March 30 - April 21, 2019 while I am away celebrating my wedding and honeymoon. There will be no email communication or production during this time.

If you’re just starting the process, please allow at least 1 week prior to these deadlines for estimates and proofs.

Here are important deadlines for orders to start production in order to guarantee shipment prior to the closure dates:

March 8, 2019 - Last day for letterpress/foil wedding invitation orders
March 15, 2019 - Last day for digitally printed wedding invitation orders
March 22, 2019 - Last day for save the dates and day-of stationery items, such as menus, programs, thank you cards, place cards, etc.

Please note that in order to start production of your order, we require the final proof to be approved for printing, final balance paid and final guest list, if applicable.

The studio will reopen on Monday, April 22, 2019. Please expect a slight delay in email responses and production for the first week as I get caught up from my time away.

I can’t thank you all enough for your tremendous support, patience and understanding during my time away to be fully present with my new husband!

Modern Greenery V2 Letterpress Wedding Invitation

Modern Greenery V2 Letterpress Wedding Invitation

October 20th, 2013 is the day that I opened my Etsy shop. I was working full-time at a hotel at the time and wasn’t completely fulfilled so I was searching for a creative outlet and something to occupy my time on the weekends. I opened my shop with a few listings of craft-y type things for weddings. My top seller were these wine cork table number holders! Oh how times have changed!

Fast forward to almost a year later and I knew I had something going with Etsy. I loved being able to talk to my clients and make something unique for them. I was still doing the craft-y thing but wanted to explore more with graphic design and stationery. At the time, my 9am-5pm hotel job turned into more of a 6am-8pm job and after months of that, I knew it was time to leave.

October 3rd, 2014 was my last day of work before taking on Just Jurf full-time. This was the day I downloaded Adobe Illustrator and from there, taught myself graphic design and how to run a business. This was the time when I started to take Just Jurf seriously and really find a way to provide the best experience for my clients and create an exceptional product.

I’m so grateful for the opportunities this business have provided me and my family. It truly is an honor to work with such amazing people and be apart of such a special day in your lives. I hold this sale once a year to show my thanks and gratitude towards my future and past clients as there’s a little something for everyone.

Anniversary sale fine print:
JUST JURF 2018 ANNIVERSARY SALE! In celebration of our 5-year anniversary, we're offering 25% off our entire shop! All orders must be placed by October 22, 2018 and approved for printing by October 31, 2018. If your order is not finalized by October 31, 2018, you will be invoiced for the remaining balance prior to printing. The sale cannot be applied towards orders placed prior to October 2, 2018. Happy shopping!

Why There is NOT a New Design Releasing Today

AnnouncementsJenn JurfComment

If you’ve come across my work over the past year, you’ll know that I release a new design every single Friday… until today. This has been a long time coming and it feels so weird to publish this announcement.

Let’s go back in time before I started this journey. My business wasn’t getting off the ground like I had imagined and I knew I had a few flaws that were really holding me back: my design skills were beginner and I only had about 10 designs to choose from. I knew the best way to tackle these challenges was to release new designs as quickly as possible so I started releasing every week.

Fast forward to today, which would have been my 80th design (don’t worry, it will be here next week!) and man have things changed!

First, my design skills have developed a lot. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still a lot of learning that I plan to do but it’s crazy to see how much growth has occurred over the last year! See picture below of design #7, the Monstera Leaf Wedding Invitation.

Secondly, my business has completely taken off more than I ever could have imagined. Not only does it financially support myself and my family but I get to work with amazing clients all day long and guide them through their wedding stationery journey. It’s a very rewarding job and I wouldn’t change it for the world!

But don’t worry, the new designs are not going anywhere! They’re just slowing down a bit to every other Friday.

2 big reasons come into play when making this decision:

1 | I want to spend more time creating higher quality designs. Though there are endless possibilities to creating new designs, I want to focus on only releasing the best of my best for your special day.

2 | There are so many unique ways to use the invitations that are already part of my collection, so I want to show more examples of how a few changes (fonts, colors, envelope liners, etc.) can create a brand new and unique invitation suite.

So moving forward, every other Friday will be a completely new design from scratch. The other Fridays will feature a combination of designs from the current collection, but with a few changes to make one completely new invitation.

Cheers to growth and embracing change!

One Tree Planted Partnership

AnnouncementsJenn JurfComment

I’m so excited to share with you all my partnership with an organized called One Tree Planted! Starting today, May 15th, 2018, every sale made through Just Jurf will be turned into one tree planted.

The sale can be anything from save the dates to invitations and reception stationery (sample kits are not included). That means that throughout your wedding process, you could theoretically plant 3-4 trees! That may not sound like a whole lot but if every person did this, we could make a big difference!

This has been something I’ve been wanting to do ever since I started my business in 2013. I was always conscious about being a green company and using materials that were properly sourced. Using recycled paper for my invitations and envelopes just wasn’t enough. I wasn’t sure where to start when I recently stumbled upon the organization, One Tree Planted.

Tree Facts

All sourced from One Tree Planted’s website.

  • Every 2 seconds, man destroys an area of forest the size of a football field.

  • Deforestation comes in many forms, including fires, clear-cutting for agriculture, ranching and development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate change.

  • Removing trees deprives the forest of portions of its canopy, which blocks the sun’s rays during the day and holds in heat at night. This disruption leads to move extreme temperature swings that can be harmful to plants and animals.

  • 80,000 acres of forests disappear from Earth every day!

  • Trees play an important role in the water cycle, grounding the water in their roots and releasing it into the atmosphere. In the Amazon, more than half the water in the ecosystem is held within the plants. Without the plants, the climate may become dryer.

  • 4/10 trees get chopped down and are processed into pulp for making paper products such as tissue paper, toothpaste, magazines and more…

  • 70% of the world’s plants and animals live in forests and are losing their habitats to deforestation. Loss of habitat can lead to species extinction. This is not only a biodiversity tragedy but also has negative consequences for medicinal research and local populations who rely on the animals and plants in the forests for hunting and medicine.

  • The world’s rainforests could completely vanish in a hundred years at the current rate of deforestation.

More facts can be found on their website.

As I’m diving more and more into learning about the environmental impacts of my stationery business, I will be making small changes in my packaging and products to ensure social responsibility while still providing an exceptional product.

Fresh Start: Bringing the Blog Back!

AnnouncementsJenn JurfComment

So I’ve tried it before - the frequent updates and posts jam packed with useful information, but I truly believe that the timing has to be right in order for something to work well. Let me explain…

When I first launched my blog last year, I also released a new design every week, kept up with social media posts and made sure Pinterest knew who I was, all while maintaining the sudden growth of my business. Starting that many new projects all at once and trying to give 110% to each project, led me to burn out very very quickly. Throughout the past 6 months, I’ve been working to evaluate what’s important to you and what’s important to me.

At the end of the day, you want a beautiful wedding invitation from an industry professional, and you’d like to get things done in a timely manner.

So that brings me to today with the relaunch of my blog. “What happened to your old blog?” you may ask. Well, in January, my new website launched and the blog just didn’t make the cut. Yay for fresh starts!
